The IRS stipulates that a charitable contribution is deductible only to the extent that it exceeds the "fair market value" of any premium you receive in return for the contribution.

Vehicle Donation Program
Now there is an exciting new way to roll with WPFW, your community radio station. Donate your used car, truck, motorcycle, boat, or recreational vehicle, to WPFW before January 1, 2005 and get an Income Tax Deduction! To donate your used vehicle call 1-866-WPFW-CAR (1-866-973-9227). The tax laws are changing on January 1, 2005 with regard to vehicle donations. Under the current law and up to December 31, 2004, donors are allowed a fair-market value deduction on their tax return for their charitable contribution. On January 1, 2005 if the donor’s claimed value exceeds $500 and the item is sold by the charitable organization, the donor’ s deduction is limited to the gross proceeds from the sale. >>more
